Scaffolding for chimneys and lofts
Focused access for chimney stacks and loft conversions across Scotland — designed around the roof, the stack and the work being done.
Chimney & loft access
Access at the top of the house
- Chimney stacks
- Loft conversions & dormers
- SG4 · TG20 standards
A chimney stack or a loft conversion puts the work at the very top of the house, often on a pitched roof with little room to stand. We design scaffolding that gets your trades there safely — a tight, well-braced platform around a stack, or a full working lift at eaves level for dormers, rooflights and structural work.
Every scaffold is built around the property in front of us: its height, the pitch of the roof, where the stack sits and what your trades need to do from it. It is kept clear of the openings they are working through, inspected while it stands, and taken down once the work is finished.
Typical jobs
Chimney and loft work we scaffold for
Most chimney and loft scaffolds we put up are for one of these jobs. If yours isn’t on the list, it is still worth asking.

Chimney removal
Access for taking down a stack that is no longer needed, with room to bring the material down safely.
-
Flashings, pots & cowls
Short-duration access for the smaller jobs at the top of a stack.

Safety
Safe access at the top of the house
Chimney and loft work puts people on a pitched roof, next to a drop, with materials going up and down. Every scaffold we erect follows SG4 and TG20 guidance and the Work at Height Regulations, and our scaffolders keep their qualifications and training up to date.
Once it is up we inspect it at handover and at regular intervals while it stands, with extra checks after bad weather, so the structure stays safe for as long as your trades need it.
Our inspection service- Erected and dismantled to SG4 and TG20 guidance
- Qualified scaffolders, with training kept up to date
- Inspected at handover, then at least every seven days
- Extra checks after high winds, with a written report each time

Questions about chimney and loft access
The questions we hear most often about scaffolding for chimneys and loft conversions.
-
Do I need scaffolding just to work on a chimney?
For most chimney work, yes. A stack sits on a pitched roof, and a scaffold gives a safe platform to work from all the way round it. Tell us about the stack and the roof, and we’ll advise on the simplest safe access for the job.
-
Can the scaffold stay up for the whole loft conversion?
Yes. It stays up for as long as the work needs it, inspected at least every seven days while it stands, with extra checks after high winds. If the work changes — a dormer goes in or an opening moves — let us know and we’ll adapt the scaffold to suit.
-
How much does domestic scaffolding cost?
There is no standard price. What it costs depends on the height and length of the scaffold, how long it needs to stand, and how easy the property is to reach. Tell us what you’re having done when you get in touch and we’ll come back to you with a clear, competitive price — no hidden costs.
-
Will the scaffold damage my driveway or garden?
Scaffolding spreads its load through base plates and sole boards, so the weight is carried across paving, monobloc or grass rather than concentrated in one spot. Where a property is awkward — a conservatory, a bay window, uneven ground or a narrow lane — we design the base and the ties to suit it.
-
Does scaffolding on the pavement need a licence?
If any part of the scaffold has to stand on a public footpath or road, the local authority has to license it before it goes up. Mention it when you enquire so it can be allowed for in the programme.
-
How do you ensure safety on-site?
Safety is our top priority. All scaffolding is designed and erected to meet current UK safety regulations, including SG4, TG20, and Working at Height standards. Our qualified team also carries out regular inspections and provides health and safety reports to ensure full compliance throughout your project.
